Privacy Policy

Last updated October 18, 2026

The short version: Veil has no account and no server of ours. Camera pictures are looked at in memory and never saved or sent anywhere. Your settings and activity counts stay on your phone. The only data that leaves the phone is what Google Play and Google's ad software handle, described below. Veil is for adults (18+).

This policy explains what the Veil: Privacy Screen app ("Veil", "we", "us" — a product of Ashbuild) does with information.

1. The camera

  • Only Look-Away and Peek Alert use the front camera, and only after you turn one of them on and allow the camera permission.
  • Each picture is checked on your phone, in memory, for how many faces there are and which way a head is turned. Then it is thrown away.
  • Veil never saves, records or uploads a camera picture. The face check runs on the phone with no internet needed, and Veil does not identify who anyone is.
  • Android shows a green camera dot while the camera is on. The camera stops when you turn the mode off, when the screen goes off, during calls and when another app needs the camera.

2. What stays on your phone

  • Settings: filter strength, tint, angles, panel position, theme and similar choices.
  • Activity: counts such as protected time, sessions, covers and glances blocked, shown on the Activity tab.
  • Auto-on apps (Pro): the list of apps you chose, and which app is in front. This uses Android's "Usage access", which you switch on yourself in Android Settings. Veil reads it only to turn your chosen modes on and off. The list of installed apps is used to show you the picker and is not sent anywhere.

We do not receive any of this. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage in Android Settings removes it.

3. Permissions

PermissionWhy
Display over other appsShows the filter, the cover and the floating panel on top of other apps.
CameraLook-Away and Peek Alert only. Asked for when you turn one on.

Run at startupBrings Auto-on back after the phone restarts.

Veil does not use an accessibility service and does not read the screen's contents. The filter and the cover do not see what is underneath them.

4. Purchases

Veil Pro (a yearly plan with a free trial, or a one-time lifetime purchase) is sold through Google Play. Google handles your payment and tells the app whether Pro is active. We never see your card or payment details. You can cancel a subscription any time in Google Play.

5. Ads

  • Free users may see ads from Google AdMob. Ads never appear in overlays, the floating panel, the notification, widgets, onboarding or on a protection switch.
  • AdMob may collect and use your device's advertising ID, IP address and device and app information to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. Veil asks AdMob to show only ads suitable for a general audience and to block sensitive categories such as dating and gambling.
  • Where the law requires it (for example the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland), Veil shows Google's consent form (the User Messaging Platform) before any ad is requested. In those places you can change your choice later in Settings, under "Ad privacy choices". You can also reset your advertising ID in Android Settings.
  • Pro removes ads.

6. What we do not do

  • We do not create accounts, and we do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, location or photos.
  • We do not use analytics or advertising trackers of our own.
  • We never sell your data.

7. Service providers

  • Google Play (Billing and In-App Review) — purchases and the one-time rating prompt.
  • Google AdMob and the Google User Messaging Platform — ads and consent for free users.

These providers have their own privacy policies. Google's is at policies.google.com/privacy.

8. Children

Veil is for people 18 or older. We do not knowingly offer it to children.

9. Your choices

  • Turn any mode off, or withdraw a permission, in Veil or in Android Settings at any time.
  • Uninstall the app to remove everything it keeps on your phone.
  • Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing on our side to delete. For anything Google holds about you (purchases, ads), use your Google Account settings.
  • Ask us anything at contact@ashbuild.app.

10. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above. Material changes will also be shown in the app.
