Veil makes your screen harder to read for people beside you. It is a helpful layer, not a guarantee of privacy.
These terms cover your use of the Veil: Privacy Screen app ("Veil", "we", "us" — a product of Ashbuild). By installing or using Veil you agree to them.
1. Who can use Veil
Veil is for people 18 or older. If you are under 18, please do not use it.
2. What Veil does and does not do
- Veil dims your screen, applies a pattern or tint, and can cover the screen when your phone tilts, when you look away, or when a second face looks at it.
- It is not privacy glass. Someone close to you, at the right angle, in a bright room, or using a camera may still be able to read your screen.
- Do not rely on Veil as your only protection for sensitive information. Use a screen lock and take care in public.
- To keep touches working on Android 12 and newer, the touch-through filter is limited by Android to a maximum darkness.
- Camera modes depend on lighting and on the phone, and can miss a face or see one that is not there.
- Camera modes use more battery. Veil has a battery saver setting for them.
3. Veil Pro
- Pro unlocks Look-Away, Peek Alert, Auto-on for apps, the larger widget and an ad-free experience.
- Pro is a yearly subscription with a free trial, or a one-time lifetime purchase. The price and trial length are shown in Google Play before you buy.
- Trial and renewal: if you start a free trial and do not cancel before it ends, Google Play charges the yearly price. The yearly plan then renews each year until you cancel.
- Cancelling: open Google Play, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Veil and cancel. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policy. Restore purchases in Settings brings Pro back on a new phone with the same Google account.
- Free features, including the Dim Filter, Tilt Guard and Instant Cover, have no time limits.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use Veil to break the law, to reverse-engineer or copy the app, or to interfere with other apps or with Android.
5. Third-party software
Veil uses Google Play services for purchases and ads. Their terms apply to those parts.
6. No warranty
Veil is provided "as is". We try to keep it reliable but cannot promise it will always work on every phone or Android version, or that a cover will appear every time. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for loss caused by the app not hiding information, or by it being unavailable. Nothing here limits rights you have by law.
7. Changes
We may update these terms and the app. If a change is significant we will say so in the app. Continuing to use Veil after a change means you accept it.
